VALE ANNE BURNS

It is with great sadness that Stellar Living acknowledges the passing of Anne Burns, a valued and long-serving member of our Board. 

Anne joined the Stellar Living Board in 2016 and over the past decade, made a significant contribution to the organisation through her wisdom, experience and considered counsel. 

Anne bought an extraordinary depth of experience to Stellar Living. She had a distinguished career in journalism, including many years as one of Western Australia’s respected political reporters, before bringing her skills and insight to strategic communications and public affairs. 

As a Board member, Anne was thoughtful, intelligent and measured. She bought clarity and perspective to discussions, was generous in sharing her experience and cared deeply about the contribution organisations such as Stellar Living can make to the Western Australian community. 

During Anne’s time on the Board, Stellar Living has grown and evolved considerably, strengthening its role as a provider of social and affordable housing for Western Australians who need it most. Anne’s guidance and commitment have been part of that journey, and we are deeply grateful for her years of dedicated service. 

Anne will be greatly missed by her fellow Board members and everyone at Stellar Living who had the privilege of working with her. 

We extend our sincere condolences to Anne’s son, Owen, and to her family, friends and former colleagues.

TARGETED AFFORDABLE RENTAL HOUSING (TARH)

Expressions of Interest – You are invited for upcoming vacancies

Stellar Living is currently accepting Expressions of Interest for Targeted Affordable Rental Housing (TARH) vacancies. 

Applicants wishing to apply for a TARH property must first complete an EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (fillable form). This can be downloaded using the link and returned to us by email, post or by visiting our office.

Applicants can check their household income and assets against the Income & Asset Limits -Band B to see if they may be eligible for Targeted Affordable Rental Housing.

After we receive an applicant’s Expression of Interest, and we have a suitable vacancy, we will assess whether the applicant appears to be eligible for TARH.  If so, we will invite the applicant to complete a more detailed application form to confirm eligibility.

Important: Please note that completing an Expression of Interest and subsequent application form does not guarantee that an offer of housing will be made.

Office Closure Period: Wednesday, 5 August 2026 to Friday, 9 October 2026.

During this period, our physical office will be closed to visitors while renovation works are carried out.

OUR BRANDING JOURNEY

This month marked an exciting milestone as we began our branding journey alongside Alan Jennings from Key2Creative.

We started where it matters most – with our tenants. Through an engaging and collaborative workshop, we explored what Stellar Living means to the people who call our communities home.

ROCKINGHAM BUILD UPDATE

It’s an exciting milestone at our Rockingham site this week, with the final concrete slabs being poured. The next stage will see the house frames go up, bringing the development to life. 

In around four weeks, the site will start to look very much like a neighbourhood of new homes.

How is this survey different?

This survey is different from the day-to-day tenant satisfaction surveys we run as your housing provider. It does not ask about repairs, services, or your experience with us. Instead, it focuses on the big national issues affecting community housing tenants across Australia – things like affordability, security and broader policy settings. 

Who is running the survey?

This survey is being managed by Australian Community Housing, the national peak body for community housing providers.

AHI GALA DINNER

Our team turned up in style to attend the ahi Gala Dinner in October. Having won two awards at the state level we missed out on success at the national awards. It certainly did not dampen our enjoyment of the evening.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well done to ahi for a great evening celebrating the great work that takes place in the sector both in Australia and New Zealand. Congratulations to all the award recipients, very well deserved! 

 

2025 NATIONAL HOUSING CONFERENCE 

Thank you to AHURI for the successful delivery of the 2025 National Housing Conference in Perth. This is the largest gathering of the housing sector in Australia and it was a fabulous opportunity to connect with peers and celebrate the work that takes place in social housing. 

Stellar Living was very proud to be one of the sponsors and it was a great opportunity for the team to come and enjoy the three packed days of conversations. 

 

 

 

STAFF PLANNING DAY

Last Friday, the Stellar Living team came together for a Staff Planning day that focused on the organisation vision and goals for our future direction.

Collectively we explored who we are as an organisation and how we want it to look like and feel like, with the outcome of the day being the development of new values for Stellar Living. “The day reinforced that our people are our greatest strength and with more clarity around our vision and collective goals, this will help us move forward with focus, unity and renewed purpose.”

 

ROCKINGHAM HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

We are excited to announce that works has officially commenced on our Rockingham housing development, which will deliver 14 much needed social housing dwellings to the local community.

Rockingham has been identified by the state government as an area of high-demand for social housing, with many people registered on the joint waitlist urgently seeking secure and affordable homes.

The development is funded in partnership with the Department of Communities’ Community Housing Grants Program, awarded in July 2022 and delivered by the Cook Labour Government. To maximise the impact of the grant, Stellar Living contributed additional funding from our own balance sheet – ensuring the government’s investment could stretch further and support even more housing initiatives across the state. 

Once complete, the new homes will provide safe, comfortable and affordable accommodation, giving residents the security and stability they deserve.

UDIA is the peak membership organisation representing all aspects of the property development industry in Western Australia. As the leading voice on property development in WA, UDIA work collaboratively with government and other industry bodies to represent their members and achieve a policy environment that enables the world best practice in property development in our state. UDIA help promotes excellence and innovation in the creation of sustainable communities. 

By joining UDIA, we are strengthening our voice and ability to contribute to conversations that shape the future of housing and urban growth across Western Australia. This reflects our commitment to building strong, sustainable and advancing solutions to the housing crisis facing Australians. 

 

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE: 2025 BRIGHTER FUTURE AWARDS

We are proud to share that Stellar Living was nominated for two awards at the Australasian Housing Insitute (AHI) 2025 Brighter Future awards and we were delighted to win both! These prestigious awards celebrate excellence across the social and affordable housing sector in Australia and New Zealand. 

Our Property Officer, Haley has been honoured with the Inspirational Team Member Award held on the 26 June. This award recognises individuals who are passionate about their role, live the organisation’s value, and inspire their colleagues through dedication and leadership. As a Property Officer, Haley has shown unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of our tenants and has consistently gone above and beyond to deliver the best possible service to our tenants. 

Our second award was for Leading Asset Management, which recognises innovative practices which improve maintenance services and asset outcomes. The judges acknowledged our forward-thinking, strategic approach to asset management – a tactic designed to ensure our properties remain well-maintained for years to come. 

These recognition strengthens our resolve to continue addressing housing needs and advocating for greater access to affordable housing.
